Welcome to my Website The Alternative me!
With this website I thought I would try something different. For years I have had an interest in looking at things that are different. A lot of what I write will be tongue in cheek. I have always had an interest in alternative therapies and I like to learn something new. As I grow older I pick up little sayings or a poem some of which are quite profound others simply make me smile.
My main passion is Family History and for anyone interested in Family History from the Oswestry area then the 'mypast' websites are wealth of information. You can read about my family history and you can read how I started my research. I have quoted the sources I have used and you can look at the photographs and documents I have in my photo album. My Photo album has photographs from Oswestry between the late 1940's to early 2000.
Twenty years ago when life wasn't going particularly well I was given this verse by a friend and every now and then when I need inspiration I have a read. I have no idea were it comes from, so I hope that it gives you the reader the same inspiration.
TOMORROW
He was going to be all that he wanted to be - tomorrow
None would be kinder or braver than he - tomorrow.
A friend who was troubled and wary, he knew,
would be glad of a lift, and who needed it, too,
On him he would call and see what he could do - tomorrow.
Each morning he stacked up the letters he'd write - tomorrow
And thought of the folks he'd fill with delight - tomorrow.
But hadn't one minute to stop on his way,
"More time I will give to other," he'd say - "tomorrow."
The greatest of workers this man would have been - tomorrow.
The world would have hailed him had ever he seen - tomorrow.
But in fact, he passed on, and he faded from view,
And all that he left here when living was through,
Was a mountain of things he intended to do - tomorrow!
Another very special poem is the one below;
DON’T QUIT
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
And you want to smile, but have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but just don’t quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup;
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
